THE BIGGEST MISTAKE WOMEN MAKE IN SALARY NEGOTIATION

How many times have you negotiated your salary so far in your career?

If your answer is zero, you’re not alone. Most women are great negotiators, but only on behalf of others. When it comes to salary negotiation, we tend to expect an automatic recognition that may never come.

Companies have budgets and you have a life and career. the worst mistake is not negotiating at all.

I did this mistake myself when I worked for large multinationals. The first time I changed jobs after a long period, I didn't ask for more money. After some months I found out I had the lowest salary of my peers.

What I did after that terrible experience was to always negotiate a job offer. It may feel uncomfortable at first, but it’s important to verbalize exactly what you want. And that can be money, flexibility, health care, relocation expenses, you choose.

My last suggestion is to negotiate everything you can, every day. Train your negotiation muscles so when the time comes, you won’t feel uncomfortable anymore. When it comes to a job offer, and your salary, no one is going to do that for you. Be prepared.
