LOVE, MARRIAGE & YOUR CAREER

Are you familiar with that old saying: “Lucky at cards, unlucky in love.”?
So what if I trace a parallel between this saying and your career growth? 

If my movie memory is still good, Andy concluded in Devil Wears Prada that there was no way to be successful at work and happy in life. 
- Or at least not with a boss like Miranda Priestly!

My point is that many 40+ women believe love, marriage, and career growth cannot coexist.
Well, I’m here to prove the opposite.
Days ago, we celebrated our 10-year wedding anniversary.
And I want to tell you my story.
The story I know will inspire you to never give up on your dreams.

When I met my husband-to-be 15 years ago, I was doing an MBA.
I made twice more money as him.
I was ramping up my corporate career to become a Financial Controller.
At some point, my employer and I agreed that I would complete my MBA abroad.
So I lived in Finland for half a year.
I came back, was promoted, and then left for another company.

Then my partner got a fantastic opportunity to become an expat in Germany for a year.
He went for it. I stayed because I was following my plan. I was ramping up.
We stayed together in a loooong distance relationship for a whole year.
He came back and got three job offers in different cities.
Then he proposed.
And I accepted.

He moved out to my hometown.
I was a fresh hire at a new company and didn’t want to move out immediately.
I had a house of my own, my dream house.
He started ramping up his career. Me too.
What a dilemma! Until I realized that dual-working couples will have this kind of dilemma forever!
And I also thought that it'd be much easier to get a new job than to find another love!

Yes, I'm very to the point!

So I decided to resign and look for a job in my hometown so we could be together.
I found a job in 2 weeks, at a 50% higher salary.
And we kept going. We had 2 daughters, and at some point, I lost my well-paying job and decided to slow down my corporate career growth so I could have more time with the kids.
So he could do his career growth. But I never gave up on my career or my dreams.

When I say that I slowed it down, I still completed a Master’s Degree and started CL4IR, my coaching practice. Because,  deep inside me, I know I can do whatever I set myself up for.
And you can do that too. Even when you think you gave up everything for another person.

I know how to give you back the encouragement you need to start over and move on.
But I only know how to do this because I've lost my confidence at some point too.
Many times when you live abroad, the sparkle in your eyes is gone.
It seems like a dream at first, but soon it can become a nightmare.
And who you were in your home country doesn't matter anymore.
And all your knowledge is useless.
And you know nothing. You are nobody in this new place.

I am here to help you start over, maybe from the beginning, but maybe from where you are.
Your life is not over; it starts now!
Your career is not over; it just might have changed!
