I have something to tell you! What is holding you back is actually yourself. I'm telling you from my personal and career coach's perspective. I have changed my career at least three times during my life and also helped women do that themselves.
So usually, what holds us back is ourselves. The first step to revert it is to create awareness about our behaviors. 
A typical one is procrastination. I don't know about you, but I procrastinate a lot, and every time I see myself procrastinating, I stop to think a little about why I am not doing what I should be doing. I usually find out that what is holding me back at this point it's the fear of finding the unknown.
When it comes to career change, it's impossible to know if this new career will work out. There is no guarantee people are going to respect you. It's a risk, and we are conditioned to minimize risk. This is why it's so hard to take action.
You're fighting your inner nature, and this is hard. I agree with you. However, what gives us the courage to move on is action. 
When you're taking action, you are also slowly building your confidence.
When it comes to career change, the best thing you can do is to experiment. Do some volunteer work in your new field. Especially if you don't have some hard skills. They are important for you getting a new job.
If what paralyzes you is perfectionism, change your mindset to "done is better than perfect". 
You don't have to be perfect all the time!
